Background of the Study
Dutse Local Government Area (LGA) in Jigawa State, Nigeria, serves as the state capital and is a key player in the socio-economic development of the region. However, despite its importance, there exist significant geopolitical disparities in the infrastructural development across the area. Geopolitical factors such as historical development policies, political alliances, and the distribution of resources among different regions have influenced the extent and quality of infrastructural development in Dutse. These disparities are often tied to the political influence of various ethnic groups, the priorities of the state and federal government, and the influence of local leaders (Bello & Ibrahim, 2023). While some regions of Dutse have seen considerable infrastructural development, other parts remain underdeveloped, raising concerns about equitable distribution and long-term growth (Salihu & Umar, 2024). This study seeks to investigate how these geopolitical factors contribute to infrastructural disparities in Dutse LGA and to assess how these disparities affect the overall development of the area.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite Dutse's role as the state capital of Jigawa, there are significant disparities in infrastructure development, with some areas receiving more attention than others. These disparities are linked to geopolitical influences, including regional politics, ethnic groups, and the allocation of resources by both state and federal governments. The problem lies in how these geopolitical factors perpetuate uneven development and contribute to social and economic inequalities in the LGA. This study aims to explore the impact of these geopolitical disparities on infrastructural development and propose solutions for more equitable distribution of resources.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
To examine the role of geopolitical factors in the disparities in infrastructural development in Dutse LGA.
To assess the impact of these disparities on the socio-economic development of Dutse.
To recommend strategies for addressing the geopolitical inequalities in infrastructural development in Dutse LGA.
1.4 Research Questions
How do geopolitical factors influence infrastructural development in Dutse LGA?
What are the social and economic impacts of infrastructural disparities in Dutse?
What strategies can be adopted to reduce these disparities in infrastructural development in Dutse LGA?
1.5 Research Hypothesis
Geopolitical factors contribute significantly to the disparities in infrastructural development in Dutse LGA.
The uneven distribution of infrastructure in Dutse has adverse effects on socio-economic growth.
Implementing equitable development strategies will reduce the infrastructural disparities in Dutse LGA.
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is important because it will shed light on how geopolitical factors, such as political affiliation, ethnic diversity, and resource allocation, influence infrastructural development in Dutse. The findings will inform policymakers, development agencies, and local authorities about the underlying causes of disparities in infrastructure and will propose solutions to promote balanced development in the region (Salihu & Umar, 2024).
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to Dutse LGA in Jigawa State, focusing on the effects of geopolitical factors on infrastructural development. Limitations include potential difficulties in accessing detailed government data on infrastructure allocation and the challenge of isolating geopolitical factors from other causes of development disparities.
1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
